Vicky has always been creative and can remember sewing and knitting her own doll clothes at the tender age of seven years old. Yes, she was allowed to play unsupervised on a sewing machine at that age, and she has fond memories of making tiny pot holders out of her mother's material scraps for her homemade box kitchen. She often made her own clothes in high school, as well as soft muslin dolls with yarn hair and embroidered features. Those creative endeavors eventually led to her first bear from a McCall's pattern in 1991. That first bear was bug-eyed and sad-looking, made from plastic safety eyes and plastic joints, but Vicky was proud of him and loved him all the same. During that time, a little seed was planted that sprouted into the bears you see on her site today!
